The fire was reported late Friday night, Nov. 15, at Highland Golf Club in Shelton, the fire department there said.
The call came in around 11:30 p.m. and firefighters could see a "large orange glow" from a far distance as they made their way to the 261 Wooster St. 125-year-old golf course.
Several propane tanks were boiling when firefighters arrived, and despite efforts to cool them down, one exploded and sent shrapnel flying hundreds of feet away, Shelton firefighters said.
The heat of the fire burned away the protective layering on live power wires overhead, which slowed firefighters even more, authorities said. The clubhouse was destroyed in the blaze.
Luckily, no one was injured in the blaze, but the cause remains under investigation.
Firefighters from several local jurisdictions assisted in battling the blaze in both active and support roles.
